Lifetime lessons from a season

Hey, how is 2017 treating you so far? It is still early days and I'm sure bigger and better things are on the way!

I have just finished a short term seasonal job. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would and whilst there were a few challenges it did not mar the whole experience for me. Now that I am through with it I have been able to reflect on a few things which I learnt that I  will share below.

Work-Life Balance

I feel that this is a balance that we are all still trying to master and I do wonder if it can be achieved? I was halfway through the job when I realised that I was allowing it to consume every aspect of my life. The hours were not the most conventional and if truth be told I found myself looking forward to just sleeping after work. Once I realised that I was getting the balance wrong I made a conscious decision to have fun and just go out instead of just counting down until my next day off. It did wonders and I would feel much more refreshed at work the next day. This is applicable across the board and whether you are in a job that you love or loathe you have got to get the balance right.  Life is too short to be counting down to when the weekend starts or your next day off is.

Fulfilment

Are you fulfilled at your current place of work? Like really fulfilled. Not just saying 'I'm fulfilled' to muster up enough encouragement to survive the day. I mean really fulfilled  where you are excited to work. Yes, there will be days where you feel tired but in your heart you know that there is no other thing that you would want to do. Whilst I have not yet reached the place of fulfilment so to speak I know that the job I was doing was necessary for me to get to that point where I will be in a job that I will be fulfilled.

Can I just say that what makes you feel satisfied can change and it is perfectly fine for you to take on a new challenge or a change of career in order to feel fulfilled. Easier said than done right? Well if it was easy everyone would be doing it!  Sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zone and once we feel we are getting too comfortable again let us challenge ourself even more.

Timing

"There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens"

                                                                                                                     Ecclesiastes 3:1

Be sensitive to the timing of your life; you cannot control everything.  Sometimes you have to

suffer a little 'inconvenience' before you get to your destination. Stop stressing over what you have no control over and get on with it. It may sound harsh but at times you need to get over your feelings, pull your big girl pants on and lift your head high. Try and see the beauty in every situation and if needed change your attitude too. If there is one thing that I learnt during this season it is that nobody can teach you to have the right attitude. Life would be a lot more bearable for many of us if we changed our outlook and our attitude.

The year is still young and whilst we may not know all that is in store for us we can try and remain positive. Always.
